5 Unique Animals That Can Only be Found in Philippines

Despite being a relatively small country, the Philippines has a huge biodiversity. Many of those plants and beasts are extremely rare and you won’t be able to`````` see them anywhere else on the planet. In fact, 16 new mammal species have been discovered in the Philippines in the last decade or so. 

1. Tamaraw

                 Locally called Mindoro Dwarf Buffalo, it can be only found in Mindoro. Today, the Tamaraws in the territory are in threat of annihilation, nd Mindoro may lose the image that is once gladly acquainted with the world.

                                                                                                                                                              

                                           2.Tarsiers    

The Tarsier ( World's smallest monkey)  is a unique and distinctive looking animal that has evolved a number of specific features to aid its nocturnal and arboreal lifestyle. These furry, tiny creatures can only be found in the islands of Bohol, Samar, Leyte, and Mindanao. In fact it is one of the smallest known primates, no larger than a adult men's hand. Mostly active at night, it lives on a diet of insects. At just 12 cm in length, plus a 3 cm long tail, this tiny primate could have easily been mistaken for a gnome in the dark. A very creepy gnome, able to turn its head 180 degrees.






3. Philippine Eagle

This eagle eats monkey for breakfast.The Philippine eagle is a giant raptor. It is one of the largest, one of the most rare, and most interesting eagles on the planet. It can be found in Luzon, Samar, Leyte and Mindanao.







4. Philippine Mouse Deer
This is the smallest hooved mammal – the Philippine mouse deer, locally known as Pilandok, is a small nocturnal ruminant it’s only about 40 centimeters tall, which makes it also the cutest deer in the history of ever. Contrary to its common name, the Philippine mouse-deer does not belong to the deer family Cervidae, but is a member of the chevrotain family.





5. Philippine Crocodile
The saltwater Philippine crocodile ( World's Largest Reptile) can be found in the Philippines. It’s considered to be the largest reptile on Earth, with adult crocs measuring up to 7 meters (23 feet) and weighing up to 3 tons.  The biggest specimen ever recorded was a 27-foot giant killed near Lake Taal in Batangas in 1823. It reportedly took 40 men to bring the body ashore.
